Against Equality

Printer-friendly version

Yasmin Nair is a member of the Against Equality editorial collective.  Their description, from the website:

Against Equality is an online archive, publishing, and arts collective focused on critiquing mainstream gay and lesbian politics. As queer thinkers, writers and artists, we are committed to dislodging the centrality of equality rhetoric and challenging the demand for inclusion in the institution of marriage, the US military, and the prison industrial complex via hate crimes legislation.

We want to reinvigorate the queer political imagination with fantastic possibility.

What started as an online archive is now set to begin new life as a book series.  The first, Against Equality: Queer Critiques of Gay Marriage, is due to arrive at a bookstore near you.  It includes an introduction by Nair, as well as her essay titled, “Who’s Illegal Now?  Immigration, Marriage, and the Violence of Inclusion.” This space will feature ongoing news about panel discussions and other launch events all across North America.  For now, feast your eyes on the first test copies:

Book design by the astonishingly talented Chris Vargas, who contributed his work for our project.  You can see more of Chris’s extraordinary and multi-faceted output at his website.
